At its special meeting on 23 July 2026, the TRFA executive decided to promote all 12 teams from the LFAs to the Men’s Regional League for the 2026/27 season. The decision follows the Competitions Committee’s recommendation at its meeting on 13 July 2026.
During the competitions committee meeting, the committee agreed to recommend the promotion of all 12 teams but still recommended that the playoffs proceed. Their document was shared with the REC on Monday, 20 July 2026. The REC could not hold a meeting due to the unavailability of the members and could only hold it on Thursday, 23 July 2026. On this day, the REC considered the report from the Competitions Committee and approved it. It, however, also decided to cancel the playoffs. This decision was shared with the LFAs and the clubs concerned in a meeting on Friday afternoon.
As part of this approved plan, the MRL will have three streams in 2026/27, and the same method of promotion will be used at the end of the ensuing season to make it four streams at the regional levels, and from then, relegate 4 and promote 4 going forward.
The rationale behind this change will be fully shared by the Competitions Committee with all the affected stakeholders in due course.
