The Tshwane Regional Football Association successfully held its extraordinary congress on the 18th of July 2026 at Centurion to pave the way for the implementation of the regional executive officer position, adopt the audited financial statements for 2024/25, and appoint the ethics committee. It is done.
This highly anticipated congress was attended by 75% of TRFA’s members, including the Nokeng Local Football Association (NOLFA), which recently elected its EXCO to resume operations.
Approval of the Financial Audited Statements
During this Congress, the audited financial statements, whose presentation and approval had been elusive for more than 8 months, were finally approved. This audit was conducted by Van Pag auditors as a replacement for the resigned previous auditors.
Although the audit came with a disclaimer, the circumstances surrounding it were presented transparently, and the reasons were accepted by the Members. The REC also presented the areas in which it has improved since December last year, already showing progress in remediating the problems and positioning itself for a better audit for the 2025/26 and 2026/27 financial years. The President said boldly that the region is now stable!
Appointment of the Ethics Committee
Given the background of corruption, both in the leadership ranks (theft of money from the association’s bank account) and in the field (match-fixing), these problems cannot be appropriately tackled without constitutionally rooted structures and processes. In the past, the REC tried to appoint an investigative task team. Even if this task team were to complete its investigation, a judicial body would still be required to complete the process, not the REC, as the REC is not constitutionally equipped to make judicial decisions.
The Ethics Committee is constitutionally rooted. It can conduct investigations and make judicial decisions. Without the ethics committee, the region does not stand a chance to fight corruption. The association’s posture towards the fight against corruption has changed; it now has the capability. It now stands to fight the corruption.
On the 18th of July 2026, the Congress appointed 5 members to the Ethics Committee. Background checks will be performed on these members, especially now that they represent the ethics of the association. They will be issued with the letters of appointment, and the working arrangements, including the meeting calendar and KPIs, will be discussed at their inaugural meeting, which will be in the next two to three weeks.
Conversion of the Regional Secretary Position to REO
As of the 18th of July 2026, TRFA no longer has a Regional Secretary. This position has been replaced by the REO position, with immediate effect.
For quiet some time after the abolishment on the Regional Secretary position, SAFA Tshwane, under the leadership of Mr Willie Mooka, had the Regional Executive Officer, a position that was occupied by Neelan Chetty. It wasn’t until 2019, when Mr Solly Mohlabeng took over, that the association moved away from the regional executive officer position to the Regional Secretary. This worked well, but since 2022, it has been shown to be a problematic arrangement, exhibiting a dimension of two centres of power within the REC, that is, the President and the Secretary, both having voters following. Even more importantly, it proved to be more demanding of both the capacity and availability, requiring a full-time equivalent allocation.
During this term, Sello Ramabya was elected as Regional Secretary, and he resigned in December 2025 following the probe into the loss of regional funds. Sizwe Nkosi was then co-opted into the position from December to date.
As of the 18th of July 2026, Sizwe Nkosi is no longer the Regional Secretary, and automatically exits the REC by way of his position being written off the statutes. What needs to happen now is that the REC must meet and discuss Sizwe Nkosi’s exit, decide whether to co-opt him as the fourth additional member (new position), and also decide on the acting appointment to the REO position.
The Regional Executive Committee will provide more details on this matter as soon as possible.
The association’s programmes will continue to run as planned, including the Inter-LFA Playoffs, the Soncini Games, and the Elective Congress.
