President’s Desk: 2025 End-of-Year Message

As we close 2025, I extend warm greetings to our entire football family, our 16 Local Football Associations (LFAs), clubs, players, coaches, referees, administrators, volunteers, communities, and our valued sponsors and partners.

From the Corner Flag: Reflecting on 2025

This year has been one of reflection, resilience, and renewal. Football in Tshwane has faced challenges that tested our systems, yet it has also demonstrated the power of unity, perseverance, and shared purpose.

From the Corner Flag, we acknowledge the hard work of our LFAs, clubs, and volunteers who kept the game alive in communities, even amid difficulties. Your commitment has been vital in maintaining football as a platform for social cohesion, opportunity, and development.

Special congratulations to Mabopane JM on their promotion to the ABC Motsepe League and to Mamelodi 11 Ladies for reaching the Sasol League milestones that showcase the talent and commitment in our region.

A special highlight was hosting our first Women’s Indaba to advance women’s participation, leadership, and empowerment in football.

We are especially grateful to our partners Shaka Sports, the Department of Sports, and the City of Tshwane, whose continued support has ensured that football remains a force for positive change, even in challenging times.

REC Goals for 2026

Looking ahead, 2026 represents a fresh chapter, a chance to reconnect, rebuild, and grow football across the Tshwane Region. The Regional Executive Committee (REC) has set clear goals to guide our efforts:

  • Reconnect with all 16 LFAs, clubs, sponsors, and partners to rebuild trust and unity
  • Strengthen governance, transparency, and accountability across all structures
  • Enhance league organisation to improve competitiveness and credibility
  • Invest in capacity building for coaches, referees, and administrators
  • Prioritise youth, women’s, and grassroots football development

These efforts align with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

  • SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by promoting active lifestyles and mental wellness
  • SDG 4: Quality Education: using football to teach life skills and discipline
  • SDG 5: Gender Equality: advancing women’s participation and leadership
  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth: creating opportunities in football
  • SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities: fostering community cohesion
  • SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions: promoting ethical leadership and governance

To our current and prospective sponsors, we invite you to partner with us in rebuilding confidence, delivering impact, and growing the beautiful game responsibly. Together, we can ensure 2026 is a year of unity, progress, and sustainable success for football in Tshwane.

Newly Co-opted Members

On behalf of the REC, let me take this opportunity to congratulate Ms Maggie Hendricks, who has been co-opted to the position of 2nd Vice President. Maggie has, over time, demonstrated leadership capabilities, resilience, and undying loyalty to the organisation. The fact that only a woman was supposed to be considered for this position was just the cherry on top.

The REC furthercongratulates Ms Michelle Abdeziet from the Eersterust Football Association, who has been co-opted to the Additional REC position vacated by Mr Sizwe Nkosi. She will vacate her position as Secretary at the LFA. She will, however, not leave the LFA high and dry but will hand over for a considerable period. The REC wishes Ms Abdeziet well in her new role and looks forward to working with her.

The REC alsocongratulates Mr Josaih Phahla from Hammanskraal, who has been co-opted to the Additional REC position vacated by Ms Maggie Hendricks. Mr Phahla was the former Vice-President of the region under Mr Solly Mohlabeng’s first term, and he discharged his responsibilities with excellence. The REC wishes Mr Phahla well in his new role and looks forward to working with him.

After all the resignations and the co-options, kindly see below the Regional Executive Committee.
