SAFA Tshwane Extraordinary Congress 2024: Changes, Fees, and Rebranding

SAFA Tshwane will hold its Extraordinary Congress on the 3rd of August 2024, primarily to finish the business of the Ordinary Congress that was held on the 6th of April 2024. Chief amongst the business to be conducted during this Congress is the approval of the revised Schedule of Fees and the appointment of external auditors.

Added to the business of this upcoming Congress is the change of the name of the region as mandated by SAFA. All provinces and regions have been requested by SAFA to change their organisational names, basically to remove the word ‘SAFA’ from their names.

SAFA Tshwane has opted for the name ‘Tshwane Regional Football Association’. This name will, however, be considered and approved by the Members of Congress.

Following this Congress, the following changes will affect the region and its Members:

  1. Auditors will be appointed, and they will start in earnest with the auditing of the books of the past financial year (1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024); The audited financial statements will be presented to the next Ordinary Congress, which will take place in November this year.
  2. The affiliation fee will increase from R1 000.00 to R1 200.00 with immediate effect. Members will receive invoices with the new affiliation fee amount.
  3. The club registration fees of the WRL teams will change from R2 500,00 to R3 000,00, with effect from 2025.
  4. The WPL registration fees will increase from R2 000,00 to R2 500,00, effective in 2025.
  5. The MRL registration fees will increase from a combined cost of R5 525,00 to a fee of R6 200,00 with immediate effect.
  6. The MRL referee fees will increase from R220,00 to R250,00.
  7. The amended statutes (the Constitution) will be signed and circulated to all the Members of the region, to Gauteng Football Association, to SAFA, to Tshwane Sports Confederation, to the Department of Social Development, to South African Revenue Services, and to any other stakeholder of relevant interest.
  8. The rebranding project will introduce a new logo for the region by end of August 2024.Please note that any logo in use now is only for the effect, and will be replaced by the logo that attracts the will of the Members of the region.
  9. The governance documents and templates will be revised only to change the name, colour schemes, and logo therein. With no material changes.
  10. The new banners and other marketing materials containing the new branding and logo will be procured.
  11. The SAFA Tshwane website and emails will be moved from the current domain of safatshwane.org.za to TshwaneRFA.org.za.

So this extraordinary congress has a huge significance to the region, and almost defines the next phase of the region’s new identity.

The region still maintains that despite all these fee increments, the cost of football is still relatively low in Tshwane compared to other regions in Gauteng. A comparative study was conducted, and this will be demonstrated at the Congress.
