Speech by Acting President of SAFA Tshwane, Ms. Rebecca Morudu, at the Extraordinary Congress

Ladies and gentlemen, LFA’s delegates, REC members, Honorary President Mr. Simon Sebapu, and all guests present. Good morning to everyone present.

It is a distinct honor to address you today at this pivotal Extraordinary Congress of the South African Football Association (SAFA) Tshwane. I stand before you not only as your acting President but as a fervent advocate for the growth and development of football in our region.

First and foremost, I would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to Eersterust Rams for their remarkable achievement in securing promotion to the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League. This is a significant milestone for the club and a testament to their dedication, hard work, and exceptional talent. Eersterust Rams has set a shining example of what can be accomplished through perseverance and commitment. Your achievement serves as an inspiration to other clubs and teams across our region, demonstrating that success is indeed within reach through determination and teamwork.

I am also delighted to extend our congratulations to Orchards Blue Birds, Lighthouse FC, Nkadimeng FC, and Zwashu Academy for their recent promotions to the Regional Hollywoodbet MRL. Your achievements reflect your unwavering dedication and the high standard of football in our region. We celebrate your success and look forward to seeing you thrive in this new competitive environment.

As we celebrate these successes, it is essential to recognize the broader vision we must embrace for the future of football in our region. One of our key priorities is the continued promotion and support of women’s football. Women’s football has seen tremendous growth in recent years, and it is our responsibility to ensure this progress continues. We must strive to create more opportunities for women at all levels of the game—from grassroots to elite competition. By investing in women’s football, we are not only enhancing the sport but also fostering inclusivity and providing role models for future generations. Let us pledge to champion the cause of women in football, supporting their development and celebrating their successes.

Equally important is our commitment to supporting school football programs. Schools are the breeding grounds for future football stars, and it is crucial that we provide them with the resources, facilities, and encouragement they need to flourish. By prioritizing school football, we lay the foundation for a robust pipeline of young talent and help instill values such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience in our youth. Let us work together to ensure that every school has the support necessary to cultivate and nurture young footballers.

Furthermore, improving the standard of competition and refereeing in all regional leagues is vital. We must ensure that our leagues are competitive, fair, and of high quality. This includes investing in referee training and development to enhance the accuracy and professionalism of officiating. By raising these standards, we will not only improve the quality of football but also build trust and integrity in our competitions.

The development of our coaches is also pivotal in enhancing the quality of football in our region. Coach education and workshops play a critical role in this process. We must prioritize the continuous professional development of our coaches, equipping them with the latest knowledge, techniques, and strategies. By investing in our coaches, we are directly investing in the future of football. I urge all stakeholders to support and participate in coaching workshops and training sessions, as these will significantly contribute to raising the standard of play and ensuring our teams are well-prepared for the challenges ahead.

As an executive, we are committed to improving our financial position and administrative effectiveness. We are actively working on strategies to enhance our marketing and commercial efforts, aiming to better position our region and strengthening our brand. As we embark on this new season, I would also like to congratulate all Local Football Associations (LFAs) that have recently held successful congresses and elected new executives. Your efforts in strengthening local football governance are crucial to our collective success.

In closing, let us embrace our slogan, ‘Tshwaneratshwana.’ Let us continue to uphold the spirit of unity and equality, recognizing that we are all part of the same team. Together, we can advance football in SAFA Tshwane and achieve great things. Thank you for your continued dedication and commitment. Let us move forward with a united spirit and a shared vision for the future of football in SAFA Tshwane. Thank you.

Rebecca Morudu
