TRFA Quadrennial Congress – 22 August 2026

The Tshwane Regional Football Association (TRFA) confirms the successful conclusion of its Quadrennial Congress held on Saturday, 22 August 2026.
The Congress marked an important moment in the governance and future direction of football in Tshwane, bringing together delegates to deliberate on matters affecting football development, governance, sustainability and the interests of Local Football Associations (LFAs), clubs and the broader football community.
HIGH COURT MATTER – 21 AUGUST 2026
The TRFA also wishes to place on record that an interdict application concerning the TRFA Quadrennial Congress was heard before the High Court on Friday, 21 August 2026, one day before the scheduled Congress.
The matter was heard by the Honourable Judge, and the application for an interdict was dismissed.
The dismissal of the interdict meant that there was no court order preventing the TRFA from proceeding with its scheduled Quadrennial Congress on Saturday, 22 August 2026.
The TRFA accordingly proceeded with the Congress in accordance with its governance framework and the applicable requirements governing the Association.
The TRFA respects the authority of the courts and remains committed to conducting its affairs within the law, its Constitution and applicable football governance regulations.
The Association further calls upon all stakeholders to respect the outcome of the court proceedings and the decisions subsequently taken by Congress.
NEW TRFA LEADERSHIP
The Congress resulted in the election of a new leadership team that will be responsible for guiding the Association during the new term.
The newly elected leadership is:
- President: Mr Tebogo Matlou
- 1st Vice President: Mr Bongani Motsapi
- 2nd Vice President: Ms Michelle Abdeziet
- 3rd Vice President: Ms Refilwe Mothobi
- Treasurer: Mr Samuel Kgafane
The additional elected members are:
- Ms Maggie Hendriks
- Mr Phillip Sibiya
- Mr Mike Mabesele
- Mr Mpho Makgoba
The new leadership collectively commits to serving the interests of Tshwane football with integrity, accountability, transparency and respect for the constitutional structures of the Association.
TRFA RESOLUTION ON THE SAFA PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS
The Congress also considered the forthcoming South African Football Association (SAFA) presidential elections scheduled for 12 September 2026.
Following deliberations, the TRFA Congress resolved to support Mr Sandile Zungu in the forthcoming SAFA presidential elections.
This resolution represents the collective position adopted by the TRFA Congress following its deliberations and constitutes the institutional position of the Association.
PRESIDENT TEBОGO MATLOU REAFFIRMS THE CONGRESS RESOLUTION
During his closing remarks, newly elected TRFA President Mr Tebogo Matlou reaffirmed the Congress resolution and called upon the TRFA football family to respect and support the decision taken by Congress.
President Matlou emphasised that the decision is about more than an election. It reflects the TRFA’s desire to contribute to a stronger, more accountable, professional and development-focused football administration.
“Congress has spoken, and as the leadership of the TRFA, we have a responsibility to respect and implement the resolutions of Congress. Our support for Mr Sandile Zungu is therefore a decision of Congress, and we must approach the forthcoming SAFA elections with unity, dignity and a clear focus on the future of football.”
A NEW CHAPTER FOR TSHWANE FOOTBALL
The conclusion of the Quadrennial Congress marks the beginning of a new chapter for the TRFA under the leadership of President Tebogo Matlou and the newly elected Executive Committee.
The new leadership will prioritise:
- Good governance and institutional reform;
- Inclusive football development;
- Financial sustainability and accountability;
- Partnerships and football ecosystem development;
- Infrastructure, innovation and digital transformation;
- Strengthening Local Football Associations;
- Development of players, coaches, referees and administrators; and
- Building a sustainable and inclusive football system across Tshwane.
The leadership recognises that LFAs are the foundation of football development in Tshwane and will work to ensure that they receive the support, resources, communication and respect required to serve their clubs and communities effectively.
CALL FOR UNITY
President Matlou called on all LFAs, clubs, players, coaches, referees, administrators and football stakeholders to put the interests of Tshwane football first.
The TRFA recognises that football is strongest when its structures work together in pursuit of a common purpose.
The Association therefore calls on the entire Tshwane football community to unite behind the resolutions of Congress and to participate constructively in the next phase of the Association’s development.
The TRFA also calls for a fair, peaceful, transparent and credible SAFA electoral process on 12 September 2026.
The Association will continue to engage constructively with football stakeholders at regional, provincial and national level in pursuit of the advancement and development of football.
