Regional Men’s League 2026 Foundational Stage Finality

On the 7th of June 2026, TRFA finalized the pitch work on the MRL streams to determine the number 1 to 4 positions for both streams. However, we still have 3 disciplinary cases to finalise.

For Stream A, positions 1 and 2 have been completely finalized. Mamelodi All Stars is the log leader for Stream A, followed by Zwashu. However, Zwashu has fallen into a disciplinary matter for not honoring their last fixture on the 7th of June 2026, thereby giving Empire FC three points on the day. The loss of these three points does not affect Zwashu’s position on the table. The office will facilitate a charge against the club for this misconduct.

On an unrelated disciplanary matter between Zwashu and Soshanguve South, where Soshanguve South is charged of causing the abandonment of the match, a hearing was held on the 26th of May 2026, and the outcome is pending. The match is currently uncategorised on the system. Two outcome possibilitied are being anticipated, that is, Zwashu getting three points (take Zwashu to 57 points, and still position 2 of the stream), or complete the fixture in the field of play with a posible fine towards Soshanguve South with a fine. Should the latter be the case, arrangements will be made for this match to be played in the on the 13th or 14th of June 2026.

Dlalisa Moyeni and Mighty Kings, who are currently in positions 3 and 4, respectively, of Stream A, have a disciplinary case to attend to. Dlalisa Moyeni is being charged with failure to honor its fixture with Mighty Kings. The office is facilitating the hearing this coming week to finalize the matter. However, which ever way the outcome will go, both teams remain in the top 4 and will participate in the positional playoffs.

On the other hand, with Stream B, the final positions are quite firm: Spartans in position 1, followed by Titans, Silverton, and Chillie Boys. No disciplinary issues have been raised, and all these teams will participate in positional playoffs that are taking place in the next two weeks.

And then there are relegation woes, three teams, that is two on Stream A and one in Stream B. These streams were unequal in number throughout the season. To equalize them through relegation and promotion, two teams will be relegated from Stream A and one from Stream B, leaving each stream with 13 teams. The Inter-LFA play-offs will bring 4 teams to the region, leaving each stream with 15 teams.

Since it is now confirmed that no team from ABC Motsepe is returning to the region, the only uncertainty is a possible promotion of the regional team to ABC Motsepe. The Competitions Committee will provide direction as to whether to promote 5 teams or to bring back one of the relegated teams.

As of now, three teams have been relegated. These are Orchards Blue Birds, Biazo, and Transkei Rovers.

There is an outstanding case involving Biazo in its fixture at home to the Guardians. The office will work with both parties this week to determine whether to proceed with the matter, as it will have absolutely no effect on the league standings. This matter has been dragging on for quite some time, plagued by a comedy of errors, particularly from the office, leading to delays in reaching a final resolution. The same errors affected the Dlalisa vs Mighty Kings matter, and much is being done to ensure that such clumsiness has no place in office operations come next season.

From this point, we prepare for the Dlalisa vs Mighty Kings hearing, and then the Hollywood Bets Inter-Stream playoffs, and then prepare the road to Vaal for the inter-Regional Playoffs from the 4th of July.

We are confident that whichever team wins between Mamelodi All Stars and Spartans, will go ahead and secure a status at the ABC Motsepe League. As a region, we need to give them as much support as we can, motivate them, and encourage them. It is a must-win.

There is a plan from the REC to intensify the alignment and support to all the Thwane teams that play at the provincial level, and ensure that they ultimately get through the national level. The Presidential Stakeholder Support will start with the new season to ensure this imperative.

As we turn our focus to the Women’s Regional League, Regional Development League, and the Women’s Promotional League, we would like to thank, on behalf of the Regional Executive Committee, all the MRL teams that participated in 2026. We have observed a love of football and a willingness to have results determined on the field of play as much as possible. We apologize for the teething problems that arose from the leadership changes in November / December 2025. But we have achieved much nonetheless. Tshwane has peacefully reached the end of the season. We have improved the image of our football so much, both in our cyber footprint and in physical displays. We have fought against corruption involving determination, winners and relegation from the dark allies (much still needs to be done in this area, though), and we held each other accountable. To you all we say, Congratulations!!!

End
