Violence at the Playoffs
Ugly scenes of violence were captured at Giant Stadium immediately after the Mamelodi All Stars FC vs Spartans FC match on the 21st of June, 2026, as seen in the embedded post above.
Tshwane Regional Football Association vehemently and strongly condemns the acts of violence that occurred at Giant Stadium. The region will lodge a misconduct case in this matter. The match official in question is strongly advised to lodge an assault case with the police.
Because the match concerned was played under the auspices of the regional association, we would like to sincerely apologize to the Soshanguve Local Football Association (SOLFA) and the people of Soshanguve for the violence that took place within the Soshanguve jurisdiction. The apology is extended to all 18 Members (16 affiliate and 2 associate) of the region, as well as to mother bodies and partners. This is not the football we aspire to develop and promote.
As we proceed with lodging a case of misconduct for this violence, we also introspect as an association and identify some omissions on our part. From this, we learn our lessons. Event hosts must comply with safety precautions, including risk management and the use of available mitigation measures. Although the regional association complied, it fell short in some areas. This concession, however, does not take ownership of the very ugly things that took place at the stadium.
Because of this violence, the region did not conduct post-match interviews for the Mamelodi All Stars FC vs Spartans FC match. Eventually, the awards presentation was also not held. Team managers were given the trophies and medals in hand, a very foreign method of doing this.
